Mudpuppy underwater photo taken by Aleta Karstad on her IPad in its new “Lifeproof” case. Air temperature 3C, water temp just below the dam spillway was 4C, but the backwater just above the bridge had a skim of ice on it, so the water temperature drops as it runs shallow over bedrock. Note the gills are very small – the water is rich with oxygen this early in the season.
